Bisan Center for Research and Development, represented by its board of directors, its general committee and staff, denounce the arrest of their Director Mr. Ubai Aboudi. Whereas, Israeli forces raided his home in the village of Kufur Aqab and terrified his children, on Wednesday 13th of November 2019.
Bisan considers this arrest as part of the occupation’s systematic attack on Palestinian civil society institutions and the civil sector in an attempt to undermine any action or activity that enhances the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.
We call on all local, Arab, and international human rights institutions to stand in solidarity with our detained director and press for his release, as his detention runs counter to the most basic human rights principles relating to freedom of expression, academic freedom, and the freedom to establish institutions that express these rights.
The Israeli harassment and violations against the Palestinian civil sector, and their continuous incitement against the Palestinian civil society’s work in the international community is part of a systematic process aimed at passing solutions which are rejected by the Palestinian people, especially that which pertains to the “deal of the century”. This is in addition to Israel’s continuous attempts to shut down all actions that contribute to resisting the occupation’s constant policies against the Palestinian people and their land, in light of the growing right-wing fascism among the occupation’s government and its various institutions.
Once again, we appeal to those who value academic freedom and the freedom of expression as a human right to stand by Mr. Ubai Aboudi and all of the other Palestinian detained civil society activists. We also urge them to expose the occupation’s policies aimed at undermining the foundations of steadfastness among our fellow Palestinians.
